Vintage Valentine's Day

There are so many ways to have a vintage Valentine's Day that can be so romantic and fun, and cost very little money. One of my favorite ways is to just have a romantic dinner for two at home, setting your table with vintage dishware, glassware, and your candles in vintage candlesticks.

Pick up some terrific vintage candlesticks from Ebay, spread your table with interesting antique and vintage wine glasses, and some romantic music. The rest is up to you.

If you want to go out, then dress up in your best vintage clothing, possibly a vintage cocktail dress, find a place that plays old music and go dancing with your partner.

You can also go out and watch old movies. Valentine's Day should be a relaxing evening with your partner, not one filled with stress over the right gift. Enjoy.

Vintage Lunch Boxes

Do you remember carrying metal lunch boxes to school? I do.

I used to carry a lunch box to school every day when I was in elementary school. Now those same lunch boxes are coveted collectibles. And the best place to find them is on Ebay.

You can find your old lunch box on Ebay, and lots of others including Dad's old lunch box, and the Scooby Doo lunch box that your brother used to carry to school.

And don't forget Barbie lunch boxes, they have been around for decades.

Queen of Kitsch

Kitsch Deluxe

If you want to learn about kitsch, the best place to go, or the person to go to is Allee Willis the celebrity queen of kitsch. Allee Willis has been a behind the scenes person in Hollywood for many years, a composer, singer, and songwriter, but her hobby is collecting kitsch.

So much so, that she has recently opened the Allee Willis Museum of Kitsch, which you can visit online. Allee herself is a fascinating person, and she has been part of many famous songs that you would recognize.

Found Object Steampunk Jewelry

Steampunk Style Jewelry: Victorian, Fantasy, and Mechanical Necklaces, Bracelets, and Earrings
Steampunk Style Jewelry: Victorian, Fantasy, and Mechanical Necklaces, Bracelets, and Earrings

Not familiar with steampunk jewelry? Steampunk jewelry stems from the steampunk movement that began in the 1980's.

Steampunk represents a combination of the culture of the Victorian era with the modern mechanisms of today. Steampunk jewelry is an artistic representation of steampunk most often made with vintage components like watch movement gears, and clock parts.

Steampunk jewelry is filled with the mixing of Victorian, fantasy elements, and mechanical components in interesting and unusual ways. Fascinating and just really taking off as an artistic style.

Antique Typewriter Keys

Who would have thought even 50 years ago, that typewriter keys would be collectible. Not so much the later plastic typewriter keys, but the metal and glass typewriter keys.

When I was growing up, we had a very old typewriter in our house, and right now those keys or the entire typewriter would be a collector's item for someone else. Too bad that we did not keep the old typewriter.

Antique typewriter keys make very unique found object jewelry. I have seen some really beautiful earrings, bracelets and necklaces made from vintage typewriter keys.
